The fight against the increasing and serious antibiotic resistance, that kills at least 33,000 people in Europe every year and worldwide up to 700,000 people, is carried on many fronts.

The Foundation to prevent antibiotic resistance supports, stimulates and rewards preventative measures aimed at strengthening the immune system in humans and animals, with focus on medical research, education and communication efforts.

The Foundation to prevent antibiotic resistance is now open for a new application period. The Foundation gives direct financial support for research, educational initiatives and information activities aimed at combating antibiotic resistance. The purpose of the projects should be to reduce the use of antibiotics through preventive measures that strengthen the immune system and thereby reduce the number of infections. The Foundation plans to allocate at least SEK two million.

“Through the Foundation’s work, we want to contribute to reducing the spread of antibiotic resistance and to a more sustainable health care”, says Peter Rothschild, Chairman of the Foundation to prevent antibiotic resistance.

Applications must be received by the Foundation no later than 26 August 2019. Decisions of funding are taken by the Board of the Foundation.

The initiative to establish the Foundation comes from BioGaia, a healthcare company that develops, markets and sells probiotic products with documented health benefits.
